Yah, the tiny white plastic Remote that comes with the AppleTV is … cute, but no one seems to love it. Like it, yes. Love it, no.
You could buy the larger sized aluminum Apple Remote for S$28. It’s better as I can grab it in my big palm comfortably, but I’m not drawn to it either.
Did you know you can use any standard Remote controller you have lying in your house, like the one you’re using for your DVD player or TV? That’s my Remote of choice. To set it up, simply go to Settings -> General -> Remotes -> Learn Remote, and follow the simple on-screen instructions! By the way, if you prefer a dedicated Remote, just go to those neighborhood stores that sell replacement Remote. They cost as little as $5!
Finally, if you own an iPhone or iPod touch, just go and download the free Remote app. The Remote app was one of the first few apps Apple made available when it launched the original iPhone in 2007. It hasn’t changed much except for compatibility updates. The best thing about using your iPhone as the Remote controller is that you can “type” text (such as entering username/password and long URLs) with the pop-up iPhone keyboard! With the Remote app, entering text is no longer difficult on the AppleTV. The app works on the iPad too… but you’ll look really silly pointing it at your TV.
